While the Toyota Highlander was previously on this list, that’s because its hybrid model offers exceptional fuel economy that none of its competitors can match.
However, you’re sacrificing the third row and cargo space for that fuel efficiency.
That’s not the case with the new Toyota Grand Highlander, which is a separate model despite its name, and is much larger.
It is available with Toyota’s traditional fuel-efficient hybrid engine that achieves fuel consumption of 7.12-6.5 l/100 km, but it also offers a high-performance hybrid powertrain that delivers 362 hp, a number that few competitors come close to.
The Grand Highlander is an easy alternative here to its smaller sibling. The hefty price tag gives us pause, but at least you’re getting plenty of family hauling. So we think it deserves to be on our list of the best large SUVs in 2024.
